Celebrating Six Years As Courtney Hizey Photography

Wow, time sure does fly when you’re having fun! Last week marked SIX YEARS since Courtney Hizey Photography opened its doors. In these past six years, I have learned so much about photography, the ups and downs of running a business and being an entrepreneur but I wouldn’t change a moment of it! I love what I do and I'm excited to see what's to come!

For those of you who have been following me from the beginning, my gratitude doesn’t even begin to explain how thankful I am. Those of you who haven’t been following me from the start, well then, you probably have no idea how Courtney Hizey Photography started out and how I got this far!

I started Courtney Hizey Photography in North Carolina 6 years ago. Since then, CHP has been in Florida, Georgia, and Massachusetts. As of mid – 2014, we have been mainly located in Massachusetts with local travel to New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, and New York and of course down south where it all started for family sessions, engagements, weddings, and more. I have grand dreams of shooting a west coast wedding someday!

I have learned so much about photography and the business within my first six years. From my first logo design to shooting my first wedding, never did I imagine Courtney Hizey Photography would grow so quickly. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have my own photography studio, let alone outgrow that space, leading me into my new, bigger, more beautiful studio!

Some people may think that starting a photography business is simple. All you need is a fancy camera, a website, and a passion, right? Well, not exactly. It takes a lot more than that and the best advice I could give to a newbie photographer in this industry is to find a mentor you can shadow, take classes, and learn how to use a camera in manual mode. And although I don’t plan to end this wonderful journey anytime soon, don’t forget about starting a retirement plan and funding it! If you are going to treat this as your full-time job and passion you need to treat it as such with real benefits!

I am so thankful for the friends, family, and clients who have supported me throughout the years. To the clients who have stayed loyal to Courtney Hizey Photography, allowing me to capture their lives and families’ milestones year after year. I am thankful for those friends I have made within the industry and who have become like family to me.

Truthfully, thank you really isn’t enough. I love this career of mine, all the skills I have learned, and the connections I have made and I can't wait to see what the next six years bring!
