What’s the Difference Between A Mini-Shoot and A Full Photoshoot?

As my busiest season for photography quickly approaches I have had many people ask me what the difference is between a mini-shoot and a full session. I would like to say first and foremost that one isn’t necessarily “better” than the other but instead, it depends on what your photography needs are!

Say you are a family of five with several young, busy toddlers. That means you are likely short on time, and attention spans, and a mini-session will may be your best bet! You'll capture great shots of you and the kids without spending too much time trying to wrangle them! Another great reason to opt for a for mini-shoot is if you want to capture a few shots of a big, milestone event, like a first birthday, but you’re on a limited budget. Again, a mini-shoot would be your best bet!

On the other hand, if you want a session with a large variety of images (both posed and photojournalistic), a specialized style that requires a close attention to detail, and aren’t too concerned with the numbers and investment required for it, then a full session would be perfect for you!

What’s the Difference Between A Mini-Shoot and A Full Photoshoot?

What your mini-session includes:

  • A pre-determined location picked by Courtney Hizey Photography

  • A choice of times chosen by Courtney Hizey Photography

  • 15-20 minutes of shooting time

  • Galleries include 15-40 images (if you didn't select to receive the full digital package)

  • Editing: Images are softly retouched (simple blemish removal, lighting & composition adjustments if necessary)

  • One outfit

  • Limited pre-session consultation

  • Limited number of “poses”

What your full session includes:

  • Location of your choice (Courtney Hizey Photography can provide ideas)

  • Time frame that is best for you and your schedule. An hour before sunset is always best!

  • Help from my assistant day-of shoot if lighting is not ideal (she will hold a reflector to give the illusion of perfect, beautiful lighting!)

  • 60 minutes of shoot time

  • Galleries include 40-80 images

  • Editing: Images are fully retouched (lighting & composition edits, blemish removal, eye brightening, skin smoothing, removal of unwanted elements when accessible)

  • Full pre-session consultation

  • Styling with professional stylist

  • Decor/props/special shoot materials, if necessary

  • Extended family welcome! Aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, family pets… invite whomever!

  • Several outfit changes (max of 2-3)

  • Large variety of “poses” in various spots within your location

What do both mini-shoots and full-sessions provide? Beautiful photographic memories for you and your family and friends to hold on to for years and years to come! Like I said above, neither session is better than the other, it truly depends on your photography needs!
